Hyderabad: An unidentified suspect diverted the attention of a 55-year-old man and stole a three tola gold chain and Rs 3,000 cash from him at Shankarpally on Friday. The victim lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday.  Police said Vadde Sathaiah (55) from Anthappaguda village had gone to Corporation Bank at Shankarpally to collect his wife’s gold chain that he had mortgaged with the bank eight months ago. He paid up Rs 53,000, collected the gold chain and walked out of the bank.

Just then, an unidentified man approached Sathaiah and started a conversation. After talking, they walked to a nearby liquor shop and had a drink. Later in the evening, Sathaiah woke up and found himself lying under Fatehpur railway bridge.  He could only remember consuming alcohol with the stranger and coming out of the wine shop. When he looked for his gold chain and the cash, he realised they were missing. Sathaiah contacted his son, who picked him from the spot and took him home. Shankarpally inspector K Shashank Reddy said that a case under charges of theft and cheating was registered and investigation was initiated.
