Chandur (Nalgonda): Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday said time had come for people to decide whether to further strengthen the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who achieved statehood for Telangana, or support the Congress which neglected the interest of people during its 55-year rule.

Speaking at a public meeting ‘Pragathi Sabha’ at Chandur in the district, Rao reminded that the Congress leaders, who did nothing for the people during their governance, had taken up a bus yatra believing that it would help the party. “The Congress leaders were only focusing on amassing wealth when their party was in power in the State instead of doing something good for the people,” he said.

He pointed out that the Congress leaders K Jana Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy kept mum when the then chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy declared in the State Assembly that he would not give a single rupee to Telangana region.

He also demanded an explanation from Leader of Opposition in State Assembly K Jana Reddy on the behaviour of Congress MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy in the Legislative Assembly. He questioned as to whether Jana Reddy would suspend Komatireddy from the party.

Reminding that Mungode Assembly constituency was a fluoride-affected area, KTR said that there was no fluoride problem in Nalgonda when it was merged in united Andhra Pradesh in 1956. It was the 50-year rule of the Congress that made two lakh people in the district victims of fluoride.

He felt that supply of safe drinking water would solve the fluoride issue up to 50 per cent and remaining would be solved by providing surface water. He made it clear that the State government would complete Charlagudem reservoir at any cost to provide drinking water and irrigation facility to Mungode.

The Minister assured that Gattuppal would soon be declared a mandal. If eligibile, Choutuppal would get municipality status, he added.

He announced that industrial park would come up in 350 acres at Dabmalkapuram in the constituency. An ITI would also be set up in the Industrial Park to train local students and provide employment.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated Telangana ideologist Prof Jayashankar and Telangana Martyrs pylon at Chandur.
